BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship Most Valuable Player Boris Plavsic (Sr., Belgrade, Serbia/ETS "Rade Koncar") keeps adding to his list of accomplishments this season as the senior tallied three goals with eight steals, two assists, two kickouts drawn and five sprint victories to lead St. Francis College to the Eastern title and the claim the November 22 Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Following a 9-8 victory over Division III No. 1-ranked Johns Hopkins University in the opening round, he tallied a goal in a 10-9 victory against No. 18 Bucknell University before tallying a pair of goals in an 8-4 title game win versus No. 15 ranked the United States Naval Academy.
His greatest contribution to the No. 12-ranked Terriers' title efforts came in front of his own cage as the senior limited Bucknell's Richie Hyden (Sr., Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich (Conn.) and Navy's Kyle Wertz (Jr., San Diego, Calif./Westlake) to pairs of goals in aiding St. Francis knock off two nationally ranked teams on the way back to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Final Four.
The honor marks Plavsic's second league nod this season as he previously picked up the September 13 Northern Division Player of the Week award.
Plavsic and the rest of the St. Francis squad will continue the season next weekend at the University of California in Berkeley, Calif. at the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men's Water Polo Championship Final Four.
