Indiana University women's water polo head coach Barry King has announced the hiring of Pat Beemer as assistant coach. Beemer spent the past six seasons as the head coach at Wagner. He produced a 116-89 overall record at Wagner, including a 48-16 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
To enrich the student-athletes' experience in the sport of water polo, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) provides a free service in which all institutions (member/non-member) can list tournaments on the league website. Although targeted to club programs, varsity programs may also list tournaments on the site.
Washington & Jefferson College head men's and women's water polo coach crossed the finish line in 13:28:17 to place 978th of 2,157 finishers at the 2010 Ford Ironman Louisville on August 29th. Greg Jones begins his first year as the head men's water polo coach at Washington & Jefferson College in the fall of 2010. For its efforts in the realm of athletics, academics and in Bancroft Hall, the Navy water polo team was recognized as the recipient of the Director of Athletics Cup for the 2009-10 season, it was recently announced in Bellino Auditorium. The Director of Athletics Cup was established to recognize intercollegiate excellence and recognized the Naval Academy varsity team that exemplifies itself as a standard bearer in academics, leadership, varsity competition, conduct, aptitude for commission and honor.
At its annual meeting in January 2010, the Water Polo Rules Subcommittee reviewed and amended the points of emphasis, paring the list from 22 to 11 by eliminating those that are no longer needed or those that are contained in the rules book. These points of emphasis for referees are guidelines in order to bring about consistency in the interpretation and application of the rules of the game. It is important that referees call the NCAA Water Polo Rules as written and as interpreted in the rules book or as distributed as interpretations during the year.

Former University of Michigan water polo All-America goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong (2002-05) has been selected as a finalist for the 2010 Sportswoman of the Year Award by the Women's Sports Foundation. Fans can vote until midnight on August 31. Athletes were considered for the award based on athletic achievements from the past 12 months. Armstrong led the United States Women's National Team to its first FINA World Cup gold medal since 1979 last week. Over the past year, she has earned gold medals at the 2010 FINA World League Super Final and the 2009 FINA World Championship.
The water polo season may be a marathon, but it is all in stride for Washington & Jefferson College head coach Greg Jones who is slated to swim for two and a half miles, bike 112 more and then run a full marathon on August 29 as part of the Ford Ironman competition in Louisville, Kentucky. It will be the second endurance event Jones will have conquered in Kentucky. His long-term goal is to run marathons in all 50 states. So far, he’s scratched nine off the list.

For the first time, varsity and collegiate club teams will clash in a common tournament for a title as the CWPA released the 2010 Men's Ivy Championship schedule. Comprised of the varsity teams from Harvard, Princeton and Brown, in addition to the club programs from Penn, Columbia, Yale, Dartmouth and Cornell, the championship will occur on October 30-31 at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.
