PASADENA, Calif. -- Macalester College picked up its first win of the season by beating Division III No. 10-ranked California Institute of Technology, 12-9.
The Scots jumped out on top 6-2 midway through the second quarter, led 10-4 early in the second half, and held off the Beavers.
Adrienne Burgin (Fr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Acalanes) and Catherine Flint (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif./Henry Gunn) each pumped in four goals to lead the Scots. Burgin added four assists and four stolen balls, while Flint also contributed four steals and three ejections drawn.
Rachel Harrington-Abrams (So., Berkeley, Calif.) netted two Macalester goals and assisted on three others, while Sarah Shoemaker (Fr., Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) and Suzanne Oh (Jr., Waukesha, Wis./North) each tallied one goal. Shoemaker led the team with five steals.
Goalkeeper Anya Phillips (Jr., Geneva, Fla./Oviedo) finished with nine saves and a stolen ball.
