Gannon University Sweeps Notre Dame College, 13-11, and Salem International University, 17-9, in CWPA Western Division Play

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Gannon University earned a pair of wins as the Lady Knights defeated the host Falcons of Notre Dame College, 13-11,  and then handled Salem International University, 17-9, in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division action.

The Lady Knights opened the day with a closely contested match with host Notre Dame College. The two squads battled to a 3-3 tie after the first quarter. Gannon held a slight edge in scoring during the second frame, holding a 7-6 lead at the break.

The scoring was again even in third, with Gannon 10-9 lead heading into the final eight minutes. The Lady Knights posted a 4-3 scoring advantage to earn the 13-11 win.

The Falcons were unable to stop Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) as the senior netted more than half of the Gannon goals with seven. Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif./Tustin) added three goals while Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township). Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) recorded eight blocks in goal.

In the second match, the Lady Knights used a seven-goal second quarter to run away from Salem International. Gannon held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter before out-scoring the Tigers 7-3 during the second, holding an 11-5 lead at the half.

The Lady Knights recorded three goals in each of the final two quarters, while limiting Salem International to four. In goal, Libbie Guina (Houston Texas/Clear Brook) had five blocks.

A total of seven different Lady Knights scored in the match led by Tricia Gajewski's (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) five. Erica Romanko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and Kelly Steininger (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) each scored three times.

The Lady Knights improved their record to 8-17 overall.
