Brown University Falls to No. 2 Stanford University, 19-3, and No. 15 UC-Santa Barbara, 8-5, on West Coast Trip

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The Brown University women's water polo team dropped two games out West falling 19-3 to No. 2 Stanford University and 8-5 to No. 15 University of California-Santa Barbara at Campus Pool at UC-Santa Barbara.

Stanford jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to take a 9-1 lead by halftime. The Cardinal continued to roll scoring 10 goals in the final two quarters as the Bears came up with just two to give Stanford a 19-3 victory.

Alyssa Lo led Stanford with three goals, followed by Cassie Churnside and Ashley Grossman each adding three. The Bears had goals from Samantha Ryu, Brittany Westerman and Kate Woods, while Sarah Shin earned four saves in goal.

The Gauchos gained an early lead scoring one goal in the first and outscored Bruno 2-1 in the second to take a 3-1 lead at the intermission. The Bears were able to tally four goals in the final two quarters, but Santa Barbara came out with the 8-5 win.

Santa Barbara was led by Kacey Creek and Lauren Martin, who put in two goals apiece, while Ruth Milne combined for 14 saves in the cage. Brown's Liz Rosen and Woods led Brown with two goals each, and Sarah Presant added one. Evan Cranston earned six saves in the net.
