Wheaton College Knocks Off Connecticut College, Macalester College & PSU-Behrend on Day Two of CWPA Division III East-vs.-West Tournament

WHEATON, Ill. -- Wheaton College rolled past Connecticut College, 6-5, Macalester College, 11-7 and Pennsylvania State University-Behrend, 14-3, to go 3-0 on Day Two of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III East-vs.-West Tournament at home in Chrouser Natatorium.

The Thunder are now 8-5 on the season, 7-3 in CWPA play.

Wheaton started off the day by downing Connecticut in a tight one-goal game as Linley Sullivan netted the game-winning goal only 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, and the Thunder held off a Connecticut rally to secure the victory. Hannah Hibbs was the leading scorer with three goals while Sullivan, Kathryn Sheehy and Heather Crockett tallied one goal each.

The Thunder struck for a four-goal victory against Macalester as Crockett scored a trio of first-quarter goals before Wheaton netted four unanswered goals in the second quarter to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. Crockett scored five in the game, with two goals coming from both Sullivan and Emily Bellfi. Sheehy and Hibbs also scored in the match.

Wheaton wrapped up the weekend with an 11-goal win over PSU-Behrend as the Thunder scored six goals in the opening quarter and five more in the third to build a margin the Behrend Lions could not overcome. The home team's scoring was spread amongst seven different players as including Hibbs (4), Sheehy (4), Crockett (2), Sullivan (1), Elsemarie DeVries (1), Morgan Sorenson (1) and Bellfi (1) found the back of the cage.
