University of Maryland's Katie Ermakova Earns April 9 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week Award

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Katie Ermakova (So., Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) of the University of Maryland earns the April 9 Women's Varsity Western Division Player of the Week award as she led to the game-winner for the No. 10-ranked Terrapins in a 10-9 victory over No. 13 University of Michigan to claim the Western Division regular season title.

In possibly one of the biggest games in the history of Maryland water polo, she helped thwart a breakaway attempt with just under one minute to go with the score tied at nine-all.  The sophomore stole the ball in the middle of the pool with 34 seconds left and sent an outlet pass to Christine Goetsch (Sr., Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) for the game-winning tally.

In addition, she added a career high seven points on four goals and three assists against Salem International University (21-1 W) as Maryland finished the regular season with a 17-4 mark, including a perfect 6-0 record in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Western Division.

It marks the second weekly honor in Ermakova's career as she previously claimed the February 21, 2011 Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
