Hartwick College's Kamila Zakirova Earns April 16 Western Division Rookie of the Week Nod
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- No. 19-ranked Hartwick College's Kamila Zakirova (Fr., Almaty, Kazakhstan) netted four goals, three assists and eight steals in a 2-1 weekend for the Hawks at the Western Division Championship tournament hosted by Indiana University to earn the April 16 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week award.
She aided the Hawks in downing Gannon University (19-4 W) and No. 10 University of Maryland (8-7 W) in the opening two rounds before posting a pair of goals in a 7-6 loss to No. 13 University of Michigan in the division title game.
Overall, she added three kickouts drawn and five field blocks over the wekend as the Hawks finished second in the division.
It marks the third weekly honor of the season for Zakirova as she previously garnered notice as the February 20 and March 26 Western Division Rookie of the Week.
