PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Brown University women's water polo team (19-15) fell to Hartwick (26-11), 11-7, in the first game at the Bears' recently completed new home, the Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Both squads tallied three goals in the first quarter, but Hartwick gained a lead in the second by outscoring the Bears 3-1 to head into halftime with a 6-4 advantage. Hartwick then scored five goals to the Bears three in the final two quarters to earn an 11-7 victory.
Kate Woods and Madison Pepper led the scoring with two goals apiece, while Emily McNamara, Sarah Presant and Brittany Westerman added one each. Freshman goalkeeper Evan Cranston led the defense with 10 saves in the cage.
The Bears will be back in action at the 13-team Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championships hosted at Brown on April 27-29 with the league's berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship at San Diego State University.
