Hartwick College's Kamila Zakirova Named April 30 Western Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Hartwick College's Kamila Zakirova (So., Almaty, Kazakhstan) scored 11 times over three games to lead the No. 17-ranked Hawks to a sixth place finish at the 2012 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship and garner the April 30 Women's Varsity Western Division Rookie of the Week award.
She opened the tournament with a goal in a 17-6 victory over Notre Dame College, before adding a pair of markers against both No. 14 University of Maryland (7-4 L) and Bucknell University (15-6 W) to move into the fifth place game.
Facing No. 12 Indiana University for fifth place in the final 12-team tournament standings, Zakirova tallied six goals as the Hawks fell to the Hoosiers 12-10 in overtime.
It marks the fourth weekly honor of the season for Zakirova as she previously garnered notice as the February 20, March 26 and April 16 Western Division Rookie of the Week.
