Massachusetts Institute of Technology Releases 2011 Men's Water Polo Schedule
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) men's water polo program will begin a new era under new head coach, Mark Lawrence, when it opens play with the annual MIT Invitational on Saturday, September 3. The Engineers will welcome local foes Harvard University and Brown University, as well as California Baptist University, to the Zesiger pool for the one-day event.
The Cardinal and Gray will travel to the Princeton Invitational the following weekend before heading out to California to take on a number of teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), including the University of Redlands and the California Institute of Technology. The matchup with Caltech will be just the third all-time between the two schools and first since 2004.
Tech will begin Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Northern Division play on Saturday, September 24 with a day-night doubleheader. The Engineers will play at Fordham University at 1:00 p.m. before traveling to Iona College for an 8:00 p.m. contest.
MIT will also serve as host to the CWPA Northern Division Championship on the weekend of November 5 and 6. The top four teams from that tournament will advance to the Eastern Championship at Harvard University two weeks later.
