CWPA Official Alex Stankevitch Calls Two More at 2011 World University Games in China
SHENZHEN, China -- Alex Stankevitch, who officiates games in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), is currently calling the 2011 World University Games in Shenzhen, China.
One of two officials from the United States at the event joining fellow league referee Joe Peila, through action of Monday, August 22, he has officiated six games at the World University Games calling a pair of men's (France 7, Serbia 6; Russia 8, Australia 5) and four women's (Australia 15, France 6; China 16, Mexico 8; Australia 12, Canada 6 - Fifth Place; Great Britain 15, Mexico 3 - Seventh Place) games.
A 1998 graduate of the University of California-Santa Barbara, Stankevitch has been among the league's best referees this decade as he picked up his third Referee of the Year award at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season following similar honors in 2003 and 2008.
Besides his trio of Referee of the Year awards, Stankevitch also received the 2001 Most Improved Referee Award.
