No Lion(s): No. 15 Navy Rallies Past No. 10 Loyola Marymount University, 12-11
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The No. 15-ranked Midshipmen of the United States Naval Academy outscored the Lions of No. 10 Loyola Marymount University 8-3 in the second half to post a 12-11 come-from-behind win at the Burns Aquatics Center in Los Angeles.
LMU (4-2) jumped out to an 8-4 lead at the break but could not stop Arny and Archie Warren, as they combined to score seven goals, six in the second half. Arny Warren finished with five, including three in Navy's (6-2) decisive fourth quarter in which they scored five goals.
The Lions led by one after the teams combined to score seven goals in the first quarter.
LMU then looked to take control as they outscored Navy 4-1 in the second quarter. Goals from John Mikuzis and Peter Olsen put the Lions up 6-3. After Cort Jones scored for Navy, the Lions closed the quarter with goals from Mikuzis and Colin Walters to take the four-goal lead at the break.
The teams traded goals to start the third quarter to make it 9-5.
Navy would then score four unanswered to tie the game at 9-9 on an Arny Warren goal with 6:36 to play.
LMU freshman Joe Ferritti would give LMU the lead right back with 6:08 to play on a 6-on-4 goal.
Navy would do the rest. Arny Warren tied the game on a 6-on-5 and then gave Navy the lead for good with 3:37 to play. Conor Handley added a key goal with 1:47 to play, making it 12-10. LMU's Jon Colton would score at the buzzer for the final margin.
