Bucknell University's Matt Napleton Named September 19 Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Bucknell University goalie Matt Napleton (Jr., Oak Park, Ill./Fenwick) went 3-1 at the North-vs.-South Tournament on the grounds of the United States Naval Academy to earn the September 19 Men's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
He finished with 29 saves, four steals, five assists and 32 goals allowed in 120 minutes over four games as the No. 16-nationally ranked Bison defeated Harvard University (18-8 W), Iona College (16-11 W) and Fordham University (12-7 W), while falling to Brown University (8-7 L) in a nailbiter.
He opened the weekend with six goals, two assists and eight goals allowed versus Harvard before tacking on seven saves, a steal and an assist with eight goals allowed against Brown.
In the weekend finales, he contributed 11 saves, a steal and two assists with 11 goals allowed against Iona before wrapping up the tournament with five saves, two steals and five goals allowed versus Fordham
Overall, Napleton has helped Bucknell to a 46-19 first-half scoring advantage this year with 42 saves and 48 goals allowed (.487 save percentage) while rating as one of four Bison to start all six games this year.
The award marks the second Defensive Player of the Week nod in three weeks for Napleton who previously picked up the September 5 award.
