Brown University's James McNamara Named September 19 Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- James McNamara (So., Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) of Brown University made the difference in a 4-0 weekend for the Bears at the North-vs.-South Tournament by recording 10 steals, four ejections drawn, nine goals and 11 assists to claim the September 19 Men's Varsity Northern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Last week, he aided the Bears in downing Johns Hopkins University (10-6 W), No. 16-ranked Bucknell University (8-7 W), Mercyhurst College (19-11 W) and George Washington University (11-8 W) as part of the North-vs.-South Tournament hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
He tallied a goal, two assists, five steals and an ejection drawn versus Johns Hopkins, before tacking on pairs of goals and assists with three steals and two ejections drawn in a victory over the ranked Bison of Bucknell. In addition, he poured in six goals, three assists, two steals, an ejection drawn and a save versus Mercyhurst, while adding four assists against George Washington.
The award marks the second of the season for McNamara who previously garnered the September 5 Northern Division Player of the Week award. In addition, it is the sixth weekly accolade in the career of McNamara at Brown as the 2010 Northern Division Second Team selection picked up the September 13, October 4, November 8 and November 22 Northern Division Rookie of the Week awards last season.
