BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division-East Region and Northern Division schedules ignite this weekend in the first weekend of competition in the divisions.
A total of 18 league games will be contested this weekend at the United States Naval Academy, Johns Hopkins University, George Washington University, Washington & Jefferson College, Salem International University, Fordham University, Iona College and Flushing Meadows Corona Park Pool.
In the Southern Division-East Region, contests begin on Friday, September 23 as Division III No. 4-ranked Johns Hopkins University hosts No. 13-nationally ranked Princeton University at 8:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
Following the game, the Tigers of Princeton will hit the road to take on No. 16-ranked Navy in Annapolis, Md. on Saturday, September 24 at noon in a clash of the top-two teams in the latest CWPA Coaches' Poll, while Hopkins remains in Baltimore to host No. 18-ranked Bucknell University also at noon. Competition resumes later in the afternoon when George Washington hosts Princeton at 4:00 p.m. in Washington D.C.
After sundown, Navy will host Bucknell (7:00 p.m.) and Johns Hopkins travels down the road to George Washington (8:00 p.m.).
Southern Division-East Region play wraps-up on Sunday, September 25 in Washington, D.C. when Bucknell visits the nation's capital for a noon game versus the Colonials of George Washington.
On the other side of the Southern Division, competition continues as Washington & Jefferson College hosts Gannon University at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 23 in Washington, Pa.
A day later, the Presidents host division front-runner Mercyhurst College at 11:00 a.m., while Salem International University welcomes Gannon (4:00 p.m.) and Mercyhurst (7:30 p.m.) to Salem, W. Va. for a pair of games.
The two host schools will clash on Sunday, September 25 as W&J treks to Salem International for a noon game.
In the Northern Division, New York will be the place to be as Fordham, Iona and St. Francis College each host pairs of games.
On Saturday, September 23, the Iona Gaels take on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1:00 p.m.) and Harvard University (6:00 p.m.) in New Rochelle, N.Y. before the Rams of Fordham battle the Engineers (1:00 p.m.) and Crimson (8:30 p.m.).
The biggest clashes of the weekend in the Northern Division may be reserved for Sunday as No. 20-ranked St. Francis hosts Connecticut College (10:30 a.m.) and No. 18 Brown University (12:30 p.m.) at the newly constructed Flushing Meadows Corona Park Pool.
