BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Emily Wickenheiser (Fr., Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) of first-year program Saint Francis University registered 16 goals, four ejections drawn and eight steals in a 2-1 weekend for the Red Flash at the Bucknell University Bison Invitational to earn a share of both the February 13 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player and Rookie of the Week awards.
She opened her intercollegiate career by putting away four shots, including a pair of crucial tallies in the fourth quarter, as Saint Francis defeated Division III No. 5-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges by a 10-7 count in the inaugural game in Red Flash women's water polo history. Facing Mercyhurst University in her squad's second game of the tournament, Wickenheiser fired home six strikes in a 12-7 victory.
She wrapped up the weekend by scoring three consecutive markers in the third quarter to spark a comeback try in an 11-8 loss to St. Francis College Brooklyn.
Wickenheiser shares both awards with University of Michigan Wolverines as Danielle Johnson (Sr., Walnut Creek, Calif./Las Lomas) and goalie Heidi Ritner (Fr., Newport Harbor, Calif./Corona del Mar) garner co-honors as the Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
